Shakeup, Change For KJCCC Men's Basketball In Latest NJCAA Rankings Feature Seven Conference Teams
For a second-straight week, there was no shortage of changes among Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference men’s basketball teams within the latest NJCAA Division 1 and 2 Top 25 polls with five of last week’s teams and two new teams ranked or receiving votes in the week three rendition of the polls released on Monday, November 25th.
Of the five teams that were ranked last week and again this week, only two hold the same ranking as a week ago with Barton once again claiming the top spot in the NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball poll after getting an overtime win over Hutchinson and road win at Garden City while Johnson County went 2-0 last week to improve to 8-1 and remain at number 12 in the latest NJCAA Division 2 poll. Following their two week climb from unranked to number six, Butler falls back down to number 11 in the latest D1 poll as the Grizzlies suffered their first loss of the year last week and are now 6-1 on the year following a bounce-back win over Pratt while Cowley got out to a 2-0 start in conference play with wins at Pratt and at home over Seward County to move up five spots to number 19. Just one KJCCC team is receiving votes in this week’s NJCAA Division 1 poll with Cloud County now among a group of 13 teams just outside the rankings following their 8-0 start to the season which included an overtime win over Seward County and road win at Dodge City last week.
Joining the number 12 ranked Cavaliers in the Division 2 poll is Kansas City Kansas as the Blue Devils split their games last week with a road loss at Iowa Central before earning a road win over Southwestern Iowa Community College. Finding their way into the list of those receiving votes is Highland Community College as the Scotties are off to a 6-3 start this season and went 2-0 last week with wins over Kansas Christian College JV and Southeast Community College ahead of a Tuesday evening matchup with Division 2 number 16 ranked Iowa Western at home.
The final week of the opening month of the season will feature more high-level action both at the Division 1 and Division 2 level with top-ranked Barton heading to Cloud County Tuesday night to highlight a list of six conference matchups while four Division 2 schools will be in action Tuesday in non-conference action. The month of November will come to a close on Saturday with a ranked matchup on the Division 1 side with number 19 Cowley heading to top-ranked Barton for a 7:30 PM matchup in Great Bend as part of a nine-game schedule for Saturday.
