Record Setting Day for Girls Golf in Hesston
Several records were broken on a special day in Hesston on Friday September 27th at the Buhler Varsity Invitational. After competing at the 9-hole Marysville Invitational on Thursday it was a quick turnaround for the Concordia Girls Golf team as they traveled to Hesston for an 18 team, 18 hole varsity tournament, but that didn't slow down the Panthers at all.
Concordia last week competed in three different tournaments. A slow off day at the Salina South Invitational on Monday the 23rd where the Panthers finished in 10th out of 12 teams. A bounce back performance at the 9-hole Marysville Invitational on Thursday the 26th where the Panthers (without star Mya Niehues) finished in 3rd out of the 5 team tournament. Then on Friday Concordia had their best performance of the season. Gene Rundus appeared on KNCK's Coaches Corner on Monday morning and shared about the wild week.
Below are the top 5 team scores from the Buhler Invitational on Friday.
Place Team Score
1 Maize 321
2 Wellington 340
3 McPherson 348
4 Buhler 348
5 Augusta 363
10 Concordia 387
The team score of 387 is the best the Panthers have shot as a team this entire season. Rundus spoke about his teams performance.
The other big storyline of the day was Sophomore Mya Niehues breaking the Concordia school record for a round of golf! The Hesston Golf Course is a 71 par course and Mya shot a 72, for a +1 finish as well as a 4th place individual finish. Mya breaks the record held by Cassie Lowell held since 2007! Rundus congratulated his Sophomore.
Below are the top 5 individuals, as well as the Panther golfers.

No that is not a typo for Kinslea Jones! The Maize Senior shot -13 on the day! This set a Hesston course record, according to KSHSAA they believe a state record, and Jeremy Holaday the KSHSAA Assistant Executive Director is currently checking to see if it is a national record. Jones had 11 birdies and 1 eagle. Immediately following the round she earned a scholarship to the University of Kansas.
Concordia will now travel to the Clay Center 9-hole Invite on Thursday October 3rd starting at 3 in the afternoon. Rundus shared what he hopes to see from his team.
