Pike Valley's Gary Loring Honored by Kansas Basketball Coaches Association
Gary Loring of Pike Valley has been honored by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association for reaching milestones of coaching 40 years of basketball and achieving 400 varsity wins.
Coach Loring received this honor at halftime of the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Boys All-Star game on Saturday, June 22nd on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
Coach Loring started his career at Manhattan High School as an assistant coach for two years from 1982-1984 under Head Coach Mike Leahy. He later spent 38 years as the Head Coach at Pike Valley where he achieved his 400 plus wins.
Coach Loring has been a member of the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association since 1982 and has continued as a Class Representative for the past 32 years.
Coach Loring served as an assistant football coach at Pike Valley for 37 years, including 34 years under Head Coach Don Melby. He also served 18 years as Athletic Director.
Currently, Coach Loring serves as the K-12 Physical Education Instructor, finishing his 42nd year of teaching, and the Head Track and Field Coach at Pike Valley, where he just completed his 35th year.
