Panther Volleyball Starts Season at Marysville Invitational
The Concordia High School volleyball season officially began on Saturday, August 29th at the Marysville Invitational. Several teams from all over Kansas traveled to the home of the Bulldogs to officially begin the 2026-27 high school sports season. Concordia finished 1-3 in the tournament with a win over Sabetha.
The Lady Panthers started the tournament by taking on the Holton Wildcats, who defeated Concordia 2-0, winning by set scores of 25-12 and 25-19. Concordia was led in the match by Marlee VanMeter, who finished with 4 kills; Rubi Trost led the team with 3 blocks, Stella Trost led the team with 10 digs, and Skylah Garst, Lili Brooks, and VanMeter each had an ace.
Concordia bounced back after the early loss with a victory over Sabetha, 2-1 for their first win of the season. Concordia won the first set 26-24, fell 10-25, and won 25-16 to take the match. Concordia was led by Morgan Lister, who finished with 10 kills. Garst, Rubi Trost, and Lister each had 2 blocks; VanMeter led with 10 digs, and Garst led with 3 aces.
Looking to continue the momentum, Concordia was halted by the Riley County Falcons, losing the match 2-0 by set scores of 19-25 and 18-25. Lister and VanMeter each led the way with 6 kills; Garst and Lister each had a block; VanMeter led with 9 digs, and Lister led with 2 aces.
Finally, to end the tournament, Concordia was defeated by Valley Heights 2-1 after losing the first set 20-25, winning the next set 29-28, and losing the final set 22-25. Stella Trost and VanMeter each led the way with 10 kills; VanMeter led with 3 blocks, Stella Trost finished with 16 digs, and Rubi and Stella Trost each finished with an ace.
Clay Center went on to win the tournament, going undefeated 6-0 and winning all of their matches in straight sets.
Concordia continues their season on Tuesday, September 1st, with their home opener hosting the Wamego Red Raiders to begin North Central Kansas League play. The match will begin at 5:15 pm inside The Jungle.
