There was a lot of competition and camaraderie featured during the inaugural RC/C-C/C Scramble Royale. This was a three-day golf scramble event that brought together high school golfers from Republic County, Clifton-Clyde, and Concordia.

A two-person scramble format was played at the three different local courses. This also meant we would have a special stop in Clyde to play on their sand greens. Each school fielded at least two two-person teams, and scores were averaged per school at each event. Those scores were then averaged across all three tournaments to determine the overall winner. The friendly rivalry allowed newer players a chance to compete in a relaxed yet competitive setting.

The series kicked off in Belleville on April 7th, followed by a challenging day on the sand greens of Clyde on May 1st. The final round was held in Concordia on May 12th, where teams battled for the trophy and later celebrated with pizza and the awarding of the event’s first traveling trophy.

In the end, the trophy went to the Republic County Buffaloes, who narrowly edged us out by just two strokes when averaged across all three rounds. The Clifton-Clyde Eagles also put in a strong showing and made it close from start to finish.

From what Coach Woolsey and l could tell, all the coaches and players liked the structure and had fun. I think everyone particularly liked that it was a little lower stress because everyone had a partner, but it was still a true competition that allowed parents and other relatives to watch their kids without having to travel very far. We hope this is just the beginning of an annual tradition that allows our growing rosters a chance to compete on their home as well as other local courses, and also fosters lasting sportsmanship between us and our neighboring schools.
