Concordia Volleyball Competes in Southeast of Saline Tournament

The Concordia High School Volleyball team played in the Southeast of Saline Tournament on Saturday, September 9th, ending the day with a 1-4 record.
The Panthers opened pool play losing to the defending Class 2A State Champions, the Hillsboro Trojans, 13-25, 25-17, 15-25. Senior Callie Parker had 6 points with 1 ace, 7 kills and 2 blocks. Junior Taylor McDaniel finished with 4 points with 1 ace, 7 kills and 9 digs. Sophomore Baylen Arnold added 6 digs. Sophomore Rylie Jessup posted 9 points with 2 aces and 13 digs. Sophomore Charlize Cash turned in 5 digs and 4 kills. Sophomore Kynlee Hamel also had 4 kills, 3 points with 1 ace and 1 block. Junior Kenlee Williams added 3 kills and 1 block, while Senior Hattie Blackwood had 2 points and 2 digs.
Concordia then dropped a match in straight sets to the eventual tournament champions, the Beloit Trojans, 20-25, 16-25. Cash led the way with 6 kills, 3 blocks and 2 digs. Blackwood provided 5 points. Hamel posted 2 points, 2 blocks, 3 kills and 1 dig. Parker chipped in 2 points and 4 kills. McDaniel notched 5 digs and 1 kill. Jessup also had 5 digs, while Arnold finished with 2 points and 8 digs.
In their final match in pool play, the Panthers lost for the second time this season to the Smoky Valley Vikings, 23-25, 15-25. Hamel led the effort with 6 points, 4 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 dig. Arnold had 3 points with 1 ace and 4 digs. Parker provided 2 points with 1 ace, 2 kills and 1 block. Jessup picked up 3 digs and 1 point. Blackwood finished with 3 points and 2 digs. McDaniel notched 3 digs and 1 point. Junior Carly Brown had 2 digs. Williams turned in 2 kills and 1 block. Cash added 1 kill and 1 block, while Freshman Jaylin Roush had 1 block.
In bracket play, Concordia lost in straight sets to the Abilene Cowgirls, 17-25, 13-25. Hamel led things with 8 kills, 2 points with 1 ace and 2 digs. Cash finished with 5 points with 1 ace and 1 kill. Arnold had 7 digs. Parker posted 2 kills and 2 points. McDaniel, Roush and Williams added 1 kill each.
The Panthers concluded the tournament with a win over the Salina South Cougars, 25-17, 25-18. Parker led the way with 6 points with 1 ace, 5 kills and 3 blocks. Hamel finished with 4 points, 2 kills and 4 digs. Williams had 6 kills. Cash added 4 kills. Blackwood posted 6 points with 4 digs. Jessup also had 4 digs to go with 2 points. Arnold ended up with 5 points with 2 aces and 5 digs. Junior Kinsleigh Bethune added 2 points. Senior Madison Meyer provided 2 kills and 1 dig, while Roush finished with 3 kills and 1 block.
Concordia is off until Thursday, September 21st when they head to Chapman for a pair of North Central Kansas League matches with the Chapman Irish.
