Concordia Lady Panther Tennis Starts Season in Ellsworth
On a hot Tuesday morning in Ellsworth, the Concordia girls' tennis season officially began. 8 teams traveled to Ellsworth to start their season in this highly competitive tournament—Concordia as a team finished 7th.

In #1 singles, McKayla Cherney finished in 7th place and didn't earn any team points. Cherney started the day falling to Karli Haase of Ellsworth, 8-0. Addison Riojas of Smoky Valley then defeated Cherney 8-1. Finally, Maddison Ward of Ellsworth defeated Cherney 8-4. "She improved in every game today," head coach John Turner said.
In #2 singles, Raylea Studt finished in 8th place and didn't earn any team points. Studt was defeated by Hannah Vague of Ellsworth 8-0, Kate Griffin of Smokey Valley 8-0, and Evelyn Salazar of Trinity Catholic 8-0.
In #1 doubles, the Lady Panther team of Kinzee Motes and Alexa Jordan finished in 6th and earned 3 team points. Motes and Jordan started the tournament with a loss to Makenna Anderson and Reygan Coonrod of Ellsworth, 8-1, and then an 8-3 loss to Camila Frayre and Vivian Klepper of Ellinwood. The Lady Panthers ended their day with a victory after defeating Kiera Ehmke and Maycee Wasinger of Trinity Catholic 8-2.
In #2 doubles, the Lady Panther team of Jazlyn Hendershott and Bailey Conner finished in 6th place and earned 2 team points. Concordia was defeated by Reagan Daubert and Savannah Malsam of Trego Community, 8-0 and then lost in double overtime to Maddie Kirkpatrick and Jaci Sandberg of Ellinwood, 8-7. After the narrow loss, the Lady Panthers bounced back with a triple overtime victory over Marah Bargdill and Piper Deal of Trinity Catholic, 8-7!
Concordia will continue their season on Thursday, September 3rd, as they travel to Chapman for the Chapman Quad, where several NCKL teams will get their first looks at one another. Due to the heat, the start time is set for 9 a.m.
