Concordia Girls Basketball Pulls Away Late for 53-46 Home Win Over Chapman
The Concordia High School Girls Basketball team closed with an 8-0 run to pick up their second straight North Central Kansas League win with a 53-46 home win over the Chapman Irish on Friday, February 9th.
Sophomore Guard Charlize Cash scored 14 of her team-high 17 points in the second-half, including 8 points in the fourth quarter, and the Panthers finished 6-of-9 from the free-throw line in the final period.
Cash ended up 7-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from the foul line. She also rolled up 5 steals, 4 assists and 3 rebounds and was named the recipient of our H&R Block of the Game.
Leading the way inside was Junior Taylor McDaniel, who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, three of them offensive boards that resulted in points. McDaniel was 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. McDaniel was named our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game.
Freshman Jaylin Roush added 8 points and 3 steals off the bench. Sophomore Rylie Jessup had 5 points. Junior Kinsleigh Bethune chipped in 4. Freshman Hannah Bridwell buried a three-pointer, while Senior Carlie Carlgren had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
The game featured ten lead changes and two ties. Concordia held its biggest lead of the game at 45-36 early in the fourth quarter. Chapman responded with a 10-0 run to take a 46-45 lead. Cash scored the next five points to put the Panthers in front. Bethune later made 1-of-2 from the foul line and Jessup made two shots from the charity stripe to close out the win.
Chapman was led by Elyssa Frieze, Adelynn Kirkpatrick and Jai Rogers with 11 points each.
Improving to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in North Central Kansas League play, Concordia will head to Phillipsburg on Tuesday, February 13th to play the Phillipsburg Panthers in non-league action. Phillipsburg scored a 50-46 win over the Thomas Moore Prep-Monarchs on Friday to move to 9-8 on the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
