Concordia Boys Basketball Guts Out 60-56 Home Win Over Chapman in NCKL Play
The Concordia High School Boys Basketball team earned its fourth North Central Kansas League win of the season with a 60-56 victory over the Chapman Irish on Friday, February 9th. It marked the Panthers' fourth home win this season and improves the team to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in NCKL play.
Four Panthers scored in double-figures, led by Senior Point Guard Joey Henderson who had 20 points on 7-of-14 shots. Henderson was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, including 4-of-4 from the line in the fourth quarter, earning our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game recognition.
Senior Guard Payton Breese contributed 12 points, going a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Breese received our H&R Block of the Game.
Sophomore Chane Parker added 11 points off 5-of-9 shooting. Parker also had 4 rebounds and one assist.
Junior Peyton Retter posted 10 points and had two made three-pointers.
Senior Jonathan Turner finished with 7 points and led the team with 7 rebounds.
Concordia shot 18-of-36 (50 percent) from the field and 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) from long-range. The team was also 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the foul line, including 6-of-9 in the fourth quarter.
The game seesawed back-and-forth, featuring ten lead changes and five ties. Breese connected on a huge trey down the stretch, while Henderson scored eight of his game-high 20 points in the final period.
Next, Concordia will travel to Phillipsburg on Tuesday, February 13th to face the Phillipsburg Panthers in non-league play. Phillipsburg will enter the game at 10-7 overall following a 51-49 loss to Thomas Moore Prep-Marian on Friday.
