Cloud County's Leila Washington Named KJCCC DI Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Cloud County Community College sophomore forward Leila Washington has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, January 6.
A native of Garber, Oklahoma, Washington delivered her third double-double of the season in Cloud County's 81-67 home win over Pratt Community College on January 3. Washington finished the contest with a season-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and a 5-of-9 performance from behind the arc. Washington also went a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Washington was equally impactful on the glass, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds, all of them on the defensive end. Washington also added two steals and a blocked shot as the T-Birds held off a fourth-quarter Pratt surge to improve to 6-7 overall and 2-6 in KJCCC play.
Washington currently ranks in the top ten in the conference in points per game (13.9 ppg), field-goal percentage (50.4%), three-point percentage (44.7%), and blocks per game (1.4 bpg), where she's tied with Barton's Mary Akinde for first in the conference.
Cloud County returns to action on Wednesday, January 7, when they travel to Goodland, Kansas, to face Fort Hays Tech Northwest in KJCCC action. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm (MST).
