After leading the Cloud County Community College men's basketball team to a pair of victories over the top two teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and two NJCAA top-15 nationally-ranked teams, sophomore Corey Sawyer Jr. has been named the KJCCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Sawyer Jr. was instrumental in helping CCCC upset No. 13 Dodge City and No. 15 Coffeyville in a span of four days this past week while inching closer toward a program single-season and career record. Opening their week against the Conquistadors, Cloud County trailed for just 1:07 in the contest and took control early in the second half to lead by as many as 17 in the game with Sawyer Jr. scoring 16 of his game-high 23 in the final 20 minutes of action for a 10-point home victory. The T-Birds then took on the Red Ravens and fall into a 34-18 hole with just over six minutes left in the first half before outscoring Coffeyville 54-30 the rest of the way with Sawyer Jr. finishing at his season average with 16 points.

The Oviedo, FL native currently ranks ninth in the KJCCC in scoring average (16.1 points per game) while ranking third in the conference in steals per game (2.3). With his 10 made free throws this past week, Sawyer Jr. is now 15 away from the Cloud County single-season record and 19 away from the T-Bird career free-throw record.
