Cloud County Cross Country Takes Part in 2023 Greeno/Dirksen Invitational

Running among 30 different teams from around the region, the Cloud County Community College women's and men's cross country teams would return to action for the first time in two weeks by taking part in the 2023 Greeno/Dirksen Invitational co-hosted by the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan University at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, September 16th.

With nine total athletes competing for the T-Birds on the day, the women's team would post a team score of 390 points to take 15th overall in the Gold Division while the men would have four individual runners compete.

Starting the day off with the men's 8,000-meter race, Cloud County would be paced by a 37th place finish from Siyabonga Mokgothu with a time of 25:44.08 while seeing teammate Kamogelo Thipe place 82nd with a time of 26:38.43. Ethan Ochana would be the next highest finisher for CCCC in the race after posting a time of 27:29.33 with Andres Young also running and finishing with a time of 29:02.40 (207th).

As for the women's 5,000-meter gold division race, Cloud County would be led for the second-straight meet by freshman N Vanee Anchike who finished just outside of a top-10 finish by placing 11th in a time of 18:07.96. Posting a time of 20:04.28 for a 69th place finish for the T-Birds would be Ozia Trujillo followed by a 113th place finish from Jaelyn Rumback (20:58.60) while Joella Mathilda would place 146th (21:44.60). Also running for CCCC in the race would be Nikola Prochazkova with a 169th place finish after running a time of 22:23.23.  

What's Next?
Next time out for Cloud County will feature a trip to Columbia, Missouri to take part in another large regional meet with the 2023 Gans Creek Classic hosted by the University of Missouri. The meet is scheduled for Friday, September 29th as the T-Birds will see the men start things off with a 10:30 AM start time before having the women take the course for an 11:15 AM start.
