Melvin A. Pruitt

Melvin A. Pruitt, son of Archie C. Pruitt and Mayme (Ricks) Pruitt was born November 9, 1925 at Aransas Pass, Texas and passed away on October 25, 2021 at Republic County Hospital ISB, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 95.

He attended several schools in Texas and graduated from High School in Hawkins, Texas in 1943.  He attended Texas A&M University, where he served as a company commander in the corp of cadets and graduated in the class of 1947, serving as senior class president. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.  He was a graduate of the U.S. Armed Forces Information and Education School at Fort Slocum, NY.

He was united in marriage to Donna J. Lewis on September 28, 1952 and after their marriage the couple moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where Melvin was the sales manager for the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Corpus Christi, Texas.  In 1953 they moved to Belleville, Kansas to join his father in law, James H. Lewis in a partnership to form Jim Lewis Motors Inc, Buick and Pontiac.   Melvin retired in 1993 after 40 years in the automobile and mobile home business.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Mayme Pruitt, wife, Donna J. Pruitt on October 15, 2021, brother in law, Dr. James J. Lewis, one nephew, Kelly Lewis.

He is survived by three nephews, Kirk (Jayne) Lewis of Fort Collins, CO, Keith Lewis of Wichita, KS, Bryan Lewis of Wichita, KS, other relatives and many friends.

Cremation was chosen.

Graveside Inurnment services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 26,2022 at Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS, conducted by, Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock.

Inurnment will be in Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS

Memorials may be given to the Melvin A. Pruitt memorial fund.

Friends may sign the register book on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 1 PM to 5 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
