Max Allen Peters was born at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, KS on February 16, 1952 to John Henry and Louise Clara Peters. He was their ninth living child. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1970 while also taking classes from NCK Technical School. After high school, he enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard working his way up to an E6 Staff Sergeant Fire Direction Chief having achieved a sharp shooter badge. After being honorably discharged, he returned to his lifelong passion of farming and raising cattle while running a custom swathing and baling business for his neighbors. He was a member of the Beloit Knights of Columbus and remained active in the American Legion serving as commander for at least two terms.

On May 5th 1973, he married Diane Reinert. Two children were born into this union, Kimberly Kay and Kraig Allen. They resided on the Peters family farm south of Beloit until moving into Beloit in 1995. Max most enjoyed playing pitch and deer hunting with family and friends. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29 2025 on his daughter’s birthday surrounded by his wife, daughter and son just six days shy of their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Max is survived by his wife Diane of Beloit; his daughter Kim Newell and husband Damon, grandsons Dylan, Klayson, and Brogun, and great-grandson Westyn of Wamego; his son Kraig Peters and wife Crystal, grandsons Hunter and Waylon, and granddaughters Hannah, Lydia, Phebe, and Abigail of Beloit. He is also survived by his brother Richard Peters of Saint Marys, and his sisters Roberta Gengler of Glasco, Cylene Hewitt of Beloit, and Rita Hunter of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Clara Peters, his brothers Jack Peters and Paul Peters, and his sisters Jody Gengler and Mary Sellers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, May 2 at Schoen Funeral Home And Monuments in Beloit. A rosary will be said at 1 PM on Saturday, May 3 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2 PM. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Dinner will be served at 5 PM at the Knights of Columbus hall in Beloit.
