Two Killed in One-Vehicle Accident in Clay County

Two people were killed after a truck struck a bridge and overturned in Clay County on Tuesday, June 21st.

According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2018 Ram 1500 pickup driven by Winfer Abernathy, 70 of Junction City, was traveling northbound on County Line Road approximately 7.5 miles southeast of Wakefield when Abernathy lost control of the vehicle.  The truck struck the bridge just south of 2nd Road, coming to a rest in the west ditch.

The accident occurred around 6:15 pm Tuesday.

Abernathy and a passenger in the vehicle, 74-year-old Margaret Abernathy of Junction City, were both killed in the crash.  Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
