Subway Honors Longtime Concordia Teacher Ashley Carlgren as Favorite of September
To Ashley Carlgren, the Social Science teacher at Concordia Junior-Senior High School (CHS), teaching is more than presenting the subject matter to young students; one of its primary goals is to equip them with skills and knowledge for better decision-making later in life.
Carlgren said this is her approach to the classroom, especially with the subject she teaches.
Concordia's Subway recognized Carlgren as their Favorite Teacher for September, offering her a gift card to the store as a "Thank you" for her attitude and skills in the classroom for more than two decades at Concordia Junior-Senior High School.
Growing up outside of Mankato, Kan., Carlgren has lived in north central Kansas most of her life. After graduating from high school in Mankato, she attended Cloud County Community College and later attended Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University.
Carlgren said that after graduating from K-State, where she met her husband, she moved with him to his family farm near Norway, Kan. After more than 20 years, she continued to live there while teaching at Concordia schools and achieving her master's degree online through Fort Hays State University's online program.
Throughout these achievements, Carlgren said she was glad to see recognition for teachers since she and her colleagues dedicate so much time to ensuring the next generation learns from the past and present and looks toward the future.
