District 107 Representative Susan Concannon, a Republican from Beloit, has announced she will not seek re-election.

The Sunflower State Journal reported on Friday, May 31st that Concannon has officially withdrawn her filing after serving six terms in the Kansas House of Representatives.  Concannon had previously filed for re-election in April 2024.

During the 2024 Kansas Legislative session, Representative Concannon chaired both the Child Welfare & Foster Care Committee and the Joint Committee on Child Welfare Oversight, while also serving as a member of the Appropriations and Judiciary Committees.

The 107th District includes Mitchell and Ottawa Counties, along with portions of Cloud and Saline Counties.

In 2022, Concannon won election to a sixth term, defeating Gerald Johnson of Cloud County in that year's Republican primary election.

Over the weekend, Johnson announced his candidacy for Concannon's seat.  Johnson and his wife, Amanda, along with their seven children, reside on a farm near Glasco, Kansas.

In a news release, Johnson said he's a true conservative Republican and a combat veteran with proven leadership experience.

"We are at a place in time in which We the People must take a stand for what we and our Founding Fathers believe in.  Our founding documents identify certain inalienable rights that in recent times, have been trampled on.  This has been achieved in part by those whom we have elected that have failed to represent the values and interests of the people," said Johnson.

Johnson also said he's a strong advocate for defending life, constitutional liberties, and the values and freedoms of rural Kansans.

"I have been told that politics is war without violence.  I am no politician, but with your support, I will go on the political warpath for the citizens of District 107 in Topeka," Johnson said.

Johnson will be challenged for the open seat by Ottawa County Commissioner Dawn Wolf, who filed to run for the position on Friday.  Wolf, a Republican, works as an online coordinator for Bennington High School and is currently serving her second term as an Ottawa County Commissioner.

Wolf and her husband, Tim, have been married for 43 years and have four children and nine grandchildren.  They attend Bennington Bible Church.  Wolf is an active volunteer with many local organizations.
