On Monday, Sept. 30, North Central Kansas Medical Center Volunteers made a donation to the Cloud County Resource Center and Food Bank of $300.

These funds are to provide diapers for the Infant Care Supply Pantry and feminine hygiene products for the Hygiene Pantry. These recently launched pantries provide diapers, wipes, infant formula and baby food to families in need and tampons and menstrual pads to women in the Cloud County area.

Beginning in 2021, the cost of diapers was approximate $80 a month per child and one in every three families struggled to pay for diapers even before the pandemic and that cost has not declined. The price of tampons has risen 10% since 2022 and 8.3% for menstrual pads.

This cost struggle means that the price of these items has risen even faster than food, making it some of the more expensive product a household might buy. These increased prices helped to generate a significant need in this community, and the Resource Center felt compelled to respond.

The Infant Care Pantry and Hygiene pantries launched in April of 2024 and have provided services for many families and women in these difficult economic times.

“We are so grateful to organizations like the North Central Kansas Medical Center Volunteers for assisting us to provide this service to our community,” says Executive Director Tonya Merrill. “We could not do without everyone’s help.”
