The Brown Grand Opera House, Inc. is excited to host Missoula Children’s Theatre from July 22nd– 27th this summer.  You are invited to join Robin Hood, Maid Marion, Marion’s Maid, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and a host of others in a musical wonderland at the Brown Grand Opera House (310 W. 6th Street, Concordia, KS) on Saturday, July 27th at 3 pm for their performance of an original musical adaptation of ROBIN HOOD.

The time is simply long ago and the place is the magical, mythical Sherwood Forest.  Our hero, Robin Hood, and his Merry Band of colorful characters seek the help of the Foresters, manage to waylay the Aristocrats, and set out to rescue Maid Marion and Marion’s Maid.  Prince John tries to stay calm as his Sheriff, guards, and horsemen botch Robin’s arrest thanks to the aromatic Skunks.  Wacky humor and an original score add to this fresh new look at a legendary outlaw in a legendary time.

This year, children entering 1st-8th grades have pre-registered to participate in the one-week intensive theatre experience at the Brown Grand Opera House.  Over 60 local students from Concordia, Belleville, Jamestown, Cuba, Beloit, and Wichita will participate.  Daily rehearsals will take place Monday, July 22nd – Friday, July 26th, with the live performance on Saturday, July 27th at 3 pm.

In addition to the regularly scheduled rehearsals, Missoula will also be leading three 45-minute workshops for the students to learn more about theatre.  Children from 3rd through 8th grades will have the opportunity to participate in two different classes: “Improv” and “Behind the Scenes.”  The “Improv” session will emphasize teamwork and participation as the students learn to act without a script.  While taking a look “Behind the Scenes” students will explore the world of Costume Design, Set Design, and Makeup Design. In addition, children in 1st and 2nd grades can participate in the “Put Your Best Foot Forward” workshop.  In this session, students will learn about different styles of movement and dance used in Theatre to create an interpretive dance of a classic fairytale.

Tickets to see the live production of ROBIN HOOD on Saturday, July 27th at 3 pm will be available at the door and are $10 per person; children 10 and under are free.  This program is proudly supported by a grant from the Community Foundation for Cloud County.  Space is limited to the first 64 students who register.  This year, the Brown Grand has reached capacity and has a wait-list of additional students.  It is free for any child who would like to participate.  For more information please visit: www.browngrand.org/events
