The Democratic candidate for Kansas House District 64 will be in Concordia on Tuesday, August 16th, to speak at the Cloud County Resource Center, located at 107 W. 7th Street in Concordia, at 7 pm.

Patricia Smetana is a native of Southern California who served in the Army for six years as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom III.  A disabled combat veteran, she is a graduate of Christian Heritage and Liberty University and is pursuing a doctorate in Community Care and Counseling in Marriage & Family, also from Liberty University.  She is a resident of Wakefield, Kansas, along with her husband Wayne.

Smetana will take on Republican Lewis "Bill" Bloom of Clay Center in the November 8th General Election.  Bloom, a lifelong farmer and stockman from rural Clay Center, won the Republican nomination for the 64th District seat, topping Incumbent Suzi Carlson of Clay Center and challenger Brad Starnes of Riley in this month's Primary Election.

The 64th District is newly reconfigured after last year’s once-a-decade redistricting process.  Under the new redistricting maps, the 64th District, consisting of Clay and Riley Counties, has also absorbed a portion of Cloud County, including Aurora Township, Colfax Township, East Meredith, Elk Township, Nelson Township, North Lawrence, Oakland Township, Shirley Township, South Lawrence, Starr Township, Concordia - Ward 4, and portions of Center Township, East Lincoln, Sibley Township, and West Meredith.

Smetana's talk is hosted by the Cloud County Democrats and she looks forward to meeting local citizens and discussing their concerns.  The public is invited to attend.
