The Concordia Police Department (CPD) received multiple reports about a fake flyer scam that involved someone placing it on vehicles in the area.

According to a CPD Facebook post, the flyers "falsely claim to be from the Monett, Missouri Police Department, stating that officers will return to search for the vehicle on Oct. 1."

The flyer detailed that the Monett Police Department was now aware of a vehicle's location, and they suspect that a "drug lord" owned the car or truck from 2003 through 2010 in Cuba.

It stated, "We have reason to believe there's still illegal cocaine being stored inside the steering column and within the seat. Please do not move this vehicle for the time being. We are watching."

The flyer then stated to contact Detective McWickerson for further questions and provided a phone number that is not the Monett Police Department office number. The Monett Police Department number is 417-235-4241.

CPD staff stressed that these flyers are not legitimate notices from the Monett Police Department and that the department is not conducting any operations involving illegal substances in Kansas.

Further in the Facebook post, CPD staff stated, "If you find one of these flyers on your vehicle, do not provide any personal information or follow any instructions listed."

For further concerns and questions about this scam, contact CPD at 785-243-3131.
