City of Concordia Adopts New Ordinance Regulating Electric Bicycles/Tricycles and Electric Scooters
The City of Concordia has adopted a new ordinance regulating the operation of electric bicycles (e-bikes)/ electric tricycles (e-tricycles) and electric scooters (e-scooters) within city limits.
The purpose of this ordinance is to improve public safety by establishing clear rules for where and how these devices may be operated, outlining safety requirements for riders, and providing consistent enforcement for violations. As the use of e-bikes/e-tricycles and e-scooters continues to grow, the City of Concordia is committed to reducing accidents and injuries while helping protect riders, pedestrians, and motorists.
This ordinance was developed after reviewing Kansas law, the Kansas Standard Traffic Ordinance, existing City ordinances, and regulations from other Kansas communities. It was also prompted by several recent injury-related incidents involving e-bikes/tricycles and e-scooters in our community.
Important points included in this ordinance:
- Any citation issued under this ordinance requires a mandatory appearance in the City of Concordia Municipal Court.
- If a juvenile is cited, both the juvenile and at least one parent or legal guardian are required to appear in Municipal Court on the scheduled court date.
