North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging's Sunflower Fair Set for September 20

The North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging ( NC-FH AAA) announced today that after a two-year hiatus, it has scheduled its popular health and wellness event for Tuesday, September 20 in Salina.  The Sunflower Fair, which features speakers and seminars geared for older Kansans, people living with disabilities and caregivers, will happen from 8 am to 4 pm at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

Registration costs $20 before Saturday, Sept. 10 and includes lunch. On-site registration after Sept. 10 is $25.  To register in advance, call the NC-FH AAA at 800-432-2703.  Registrations are also accepted on the Agency's website or may be mailed to the Area Agency on Aging at 401 Houston St., Manhattan, KS 66502.

“The Sunflower Fair is the heartland’s premier health and wellness event and is a full day of trustworthy and practical information and good fun for Kansans of all ages” said Julie Govert Walter, NC-FH AAA Executive Director.  

Walter described the event as an “information extravaganza” that highlights services available to older Kansans and caregivers and will honor those who helped seniors and caregivers make it through the challenges of the last two years. 

“This is a happy opportunity for people to gather together and we are packing the day with fun and useful information from workshops, exhibitors and expert speakers and we are excited about recognizing honorees selected by counties in the NC-FH AAA region,” she said.

More than 600 people are expected at this year’s Sunflower Fair. Besides speakers and exhibits, attendees may choose among the day’s workshops. Sessions are slated in the morning and afternoon. Sessions on topics including Medicare, cyber security for seniors, legal issues older Kansans and their families and more are planned. 

Exhibitors are planning to provide COVID-19 and flu vaccines,  hearing tests, blood pressure checks and other important health screenings.
